Candy Corn Jello Shots (Halloween)
With layers that look just like candy corn, these Halloween Jello Shots are sure to be a hit with all of the ADULT trick-or-treaters this year!
Candy Corn Shots: A fun addition to your Halloween!
Don’t say I didn’t warn you: the Halloween food ideas continue this week! So far I’ve done savory things like a Halloween charcuterie board and Halloween salad and sweet things like Halloween dirt cups but I haven’t done any adult drink with alcohol in it yet!
Sure, they’re not as ksophicated as say, a cranberry rosemary cocktail, and Jello shots might make you flashback to college, but even when you’re well past that age, they can still be fun once in awhile!
Plus, my neighborhood has a tradition of giving out candy to the trick-or-treating kids but also adult drinks to the parents accompanying them. I’m willing to bet many other neighborhoods do this, too.
These Halloween Jello shots are perfect to hand out to ADULT trick-or-treaters or to serve at your next adults-only Halloween party. Have the kiddos stick to Halloween cake pops or Halloween cupcakes!
Ingredients for Halloween Jello Shots
- shot glasses – I use 2-ounce disposable plastic shot glasses for this recipe.
- lemon Jello – you will need one package (3 ounces) of lemon Jello mix for these candy corn Jello shots.
- orange Jello – you will also need the same amount of orange Jello mix.
- boiling water – easiest to make in a tea kettle if you have it, but a small pot on the stove works just as well.
- vodka – you have a few different options for flavors for this Halloween Jello shot recipe; more on this below!
- whipped cream – Just like with my apple mug cake, I use canned whipped cream here because it’s the absolute easiest to spray onto each shot. If you wanted to make a small batch of whipped cream, you could. You would just need to spoon a dollop on top of each shot.
- sprinkles (optional) – you don’t have to add a touch of Halloween sprinkles to each shot, but it certainly makes this recipe even more adorable.
What is the best vodka for Candy Corn Jello Shots?
If you already have regular plain vodka on hand for a grapefruit vodka cocktail or a strawberry mule, you can definitely use that for this Halloween Jello shot recipe, and the flavor of the orange and lemon Jellos will shine through.
However, I made my Halloween Jello shots with vanilla vodka for an extra delicious touch. Whipped cream flavored vodka would also be amazing here!
And if you happen to have caramel vodka on hand, try that in my caramel apple mule!
These Candy Corn Jello Shots are so easy to make!
To get the layered affect that makes these Halloween Jello shots look like candy corn, you’ll be making and chilling them in stages.
So, just like my fettuccine bolognese and Halloween deviled eggs, they do take a little bit of time but they’re so worth it. I recommend spreading the work for this Halloween Jello shot recipe out over two days if you can.
First, you’ll make the lemon layer and then refrigerate the shots for about 90 minutes or until they are completely set.
Then, you’ll add the orange layer, and, you guessed it, refrigerate another 90 minutes.
After the orange layer is set (and RIGHT before you serve them), the candy corn Jello shots will be topped with whipped cream and sprinkles!
How long do Jello Shots take to set?
Candy corn jello shots have two separate setting stages. They need to be refrigerated for 90 minutes to set after adding the yellow gelatin layer, and then another 90 minutes to set after adding the orange gelatin layer.
So all told, these Jello shots will take about 3 hours to set.
Making Halloween Jello Shots in advance:
Just like my pumpkin creme brulee, the yellow and orange layers of these Halloween Jello shots can be made several days before serving.
However, the whipped cream and sprinkles layer should be added to the candy corn Jello shots immediately before serving, as the whipped cream will deflate quickly.
Candy Corn Shot serving suggestions
Serve these Halloween jello shots on a spooky Halloween tray. Top each shot with whipped cream just before serving. Add Halloween-themed sprinkles if your heart desires!
