These Halloween Snacks are perfect for spooky season
While it used to be that my husband was the biggest Halloween fan I’d ever met, and I was just along for the ride, somewhere along the way, I really started enjoying it all, too.
I’ve gotten into it so much that I’ve even started specializing in Halloween recipes, and this blog has become quite a popular hub for spooky snacks!
If you’re hosting or attending a Halloween party this year, or you just want to serve a big plate of delicious but kind of creepy snacks for dinner before trick-or-treating, the Halloween food ideas I’m sharing below have you covered!
Halloween Food: what do people eat to have a scary good time?
I think there’s two camps for Halloween themed food – creepy or cute. Creepy involves lots of slimy eyeballs and fake blood. I think these types of Halloween snack ideas are good for an adults-only party, but probably too scary for kids.
So, I took a more “cute” approach for these Halloween snacks.
OK, so maybe the spider pizza bagels are a little bit creepy, but the mummies and monsters are just adorable, in my opinion. This Halloween party food is spooky but not too scary!
About these easy Halloween food ideas:
For this Halloween party food platter, here’s what we have:
- Jalapeño popper MUMMIES
- PUMPKIN deviled eggs (not pumpkin flavored, they just look like little pumpkins!)
- Mini pizzas topped with SPIDER olives
- Apple and peanut butter MONSTERS
- BAT tortilla chips and salsa
There’s a lot going on here, so let’s break this Halloween snack board out, snack by snack, as well as give you even more ideas to include!
Fun Halloween Food Ideas
Jalapeño Popper MUMMIES
For jalapeno popper mummies, you’ll be breaking out the crescent roll dough and mini candy eyeballs.
Please see my Mummy Jalapeno Poppers post for all the details on how to make them, as well as a substitute for jalapenos for those who would prefer a non-spicy popper.
I don’t think the mummy poppers necessarily NEED a dipping sauce, but feel free to serve them with marinara, ranch or sweet and sour sauce like I’ve done here.
PUMPKIN Deviled Eggs
These pumpkin deviled eggs aren’t pumpkin flavored (that sounds kind of gross to me), they just LOOK like little pumpkins.
Please see my Halloween deviled eggs post for all the details on how to make deviled eggs that look like pumpkins.
Favorite Halloween Snack Ideas
Mini Pizzas with SPIDER Olives (my favorite Halloween snack idea!)
The little spider pizzas are probably my favorite snack on this Halloween food ideas board! It’s as simple as grabbing a box of frozen mini pizza bagels and a can of pitted black olives.
Please see my Halloween Mini Pizzas post for all the details on how to cut the spiders and assemble these pizzas!
Apple and Peanut Butter MONSTERS
For the apple monsters, you will need 2 Granny Smith apples and about 1/2 cup of peanut butter or nut butter of your choice (although it needs to be a thicker kind that isn’t runny).
You will also need about 40 pine nuts for the “teeth,” a small chunk of cheese or mango you can cut into triangles for the “tongues,” and some candy eyeballs for this Halloween party food.
Detailed instructions for how to assemble these little monsters are in the recipe card at the very bottom of this post.
More Halloween Foods to try
BAT Tortilla Chips and salsa (one of the easiest Halloween food ideas!):
For the bat tortilla chips, you will need flour tortillas and some type of seasoning (I like chili powder and salt, but a prepared seasoning like Tajin works great, too).
Use small bat cookie cutters to cut bats from the tortillas, sprinkle them with seasoning and bake until they are crispy.
Serve the chips with store-bought salsa of any variety, or homemade mango salsa.
Ideas on how to serve Halloween Party Food
I like to make several different Halloween snacks and then pile them all onto one large platter for a fun and spooky effect.
But, if you’re expecting a bigger crowd or you don’t have a large enough platter, you can put each type of snack on its own plate or platter. Spread them around your party space so there’s a haunting treat at every turn!
Which Halloween snacks can be made in advance?
If you’re attending a Halloween party at somebody else’s house rather than hosting, most of these Halloween snacks can be carefully packed up and taken with you.
The bat tortilla chips and mango salsa are, of course, a no brainer Halloween themed food to pack up and take. The pumpkin deviled eggs and apple monsters also travel just fine if you pack them carefully.
The jalapeño popper mummies are best warm but still really good at room temperature – bake them and cool them just before leaving, and then pack them up.
Make sure the mummies are fully cool before you put them in any sort of airtight container, otherwise they’ll steam and the crescent roll dough will get soggy.
However, the spider pizza bagels are really best when fresh. If you’re traveling with these, I would recommend cutting the olives into “spider parts” and taking them with you.
Then, when you get to your host’s house, bake the pizza bagels and then assemble the spiders on top and serve them right away.

Apple Monster Halloween Food
Using just a few simple ingredients and a paring knife, you can make these healthy, adorable Apple Monsters for Halloween!
Ingredients
- 2 Granny Smith apples, quartered
- 1/4 cup peanut butter (natural peanut butter is too runny, so use traditional JIF or Skippy)
- 40 pine nuts
- 1 ounce cheddar cheese or 1/4 mango, cut into small triangles
- 8-16 medium candy eyeballs
Instructions
- Using a sharp paring knife, cut a "mouth" out of each apple quarter. Fill gaps with peanut butter. Press pine nuts and cheese or mango pieces into peanut butter to resemble teeth and tongues. Using small dabs of peanut butter, "glue" one or two candy eyeballs onto each apple above mouth.
- Arrange on large platter, along with Mummy Jalapeno Poppers, Halloween Mini Pizzas, and Halloween Deviled Eggs.
Notes
Home Chef Tips:
- Round out the board with bat chips and salsa: Cut flour tortillas into bats with a bat cookie cutter. Lightly spray with nonstick cooking spray and sprinkle with chili powder and salt. Bake at 350 degrees F for 8 to 10 minutes or until crisp. Serve with salsa or mango pico de gallo.
- Serve the jalapeno mummies with marinara, sweet and sour sauce or ranch dressing, if desired.
- Fill in any gaps on the board with fresh mango slices wrapped in prosciutto, and salami.

Welcome to the official Halloween fan club. We’re happy, me and the skeletons outside, to have you. I loved these little scary dudes … The mummies slayed me. I love jalapeño poppers and the wrapping looked so cute. Great job.
This truly WAS epic. Deserves some kind of award!
Lori, I mean, seriously, you just took Halloween snacks to the NEXT LEVEL! My kids (myself included) would die over this platter. I’ve always felt like Halloween foods sometimes goes a little too far in the weird/creepy department, but THIS is awesome and so yummy looking. I can’t wait to try some of these this year.
Thanks, Aimee! I’m with you – I’m not a fan of the snacks that are like gory/bloody. I don’t want to eat that, you know? Cute/slightly spooky is more my speed 🙂 Happy Halloween!
Jeff would probably enjoy being in El Paso for Halloween, because our very large Hispanic population takes that holiday very seriously. You see almost as many decorations for Halloween as for Christmas, including orange lights on the houses. Me, I’m not a big fan of Halloween, for many reasons, but I have to say that your jalapeño mummies are absolutely adorable. I also like the apparent combination of salami with mango – and the salsa and sweet/sour sauce. This snack dinner is the first Halloween thing I’ve seen that I consider pleasant. The mummies, especially, put a smile on my face.
Oh, it does sound like Jeff would love El Paso! And thank you for your kind words, as always. The mummies might be my favorite part, too 🙂
