HOW is it the end of April already? Seeing as how grapefruit season typically runs November to April here in the United States, I really wanted to share this Grapefruit Mule recipe with you earlier, but life got in the way. But I hope you have been enjoying my other grapefruit vodka cocktail this year.

Depending on where you live, you might be able to find grapefruit year-round. If not, I’ll remind you about this recipe next fall, and you can make it along with my grapefruit creme brulee and almond crusted chicken, which I love to serve with fresh grapefruit.

This recipe is special because it completes my “mules all year ’round” project. I now have a recipe for a strawberry mule for the summer, caramel apple mule for the fall, a whiskey mule recipe perfect for the winter since it’s made with bourbon, and now this grapefruit mule for the spring!

I truly didn’t know it at the time I was first developing it, but my gin rosemary cocktail has become one of my go-to drinks, pretty much all year ’round. And it turns out that quite a few of you like it, too!

In the spirit of making spirits bright, today I’m sharing a cocktail that is perfect for the holiday season, but can be enjoyed any time of the year, really.

This Cranberry Rosemary Cocktail comes together lighting quick, with just a few ingredients. Make one or two, or stir up a big pitcher of it! If you’re having a party, don’t forget the shrimp deviled eggs and phyllo cup appetizers!

Candy Corn Shots: A fun addition to your Halloween!

Don’t say I didn’t warn you: the Halloween food ideas continue this week! So far I’ve done savory things like a Halloween charcuterie board and Halloween salad and sweet things like Halloween dirt cups but I haven’t done any adult drink with alcohol in it yet!

Sure, they’re not as ksophicated as say, a cranberry rosemary cocktail, and Jello shots might make you flashback to college, but even when you’re well past that age, they can still be fun once in awhile!

Plus, my neighborhood has a tradition of giving out candy to the trick-or-treating kids but also adult drinks to the parents accompanying them. I’m willing to bet many other neighborhoods do this, too.

These Halloween Jello shots are perfect to hand out to ADULT trick-or-treaters or to serve at your next adults-only Halloween party. Have the kiddos stick to Halloween cake pops or Halloween cupcakes!

Every year, I plant a ton of herbs in my garden and then promptly forget to actually use them in the kitchen. I’ve even been known to buy a package of thyme at the store when I have thyme growing in the garden.

I don’t know what sort of block is in my brain about using all of these beautiful herbs, but if nothing else, I will at least try to incorporate them into cocktails this year.

The mint can be muddled into tequila mojitos or used as a garnish for my bourbon mule recipe or grapefruit mule, and the rosemary can be steeped for rosemary simple syrup in order to make rosemary cocktails like my cranberry rosemary cocktail.

But nothing grows faster or larger in my garden than basil. While I can sprinkle big leaves of it onto goat cheese fritters and into caprese salad all summer long, there will always still be more. Even after you harvest it, it grows back so quickly.

Since then, I’ve been waiting for grapefruit to come back into season again, so I could share my favorite grapefruit vodka cocktail with rosemary with you (and also eat it alongside almond crusted chicken)!

Well, grapefruit has finally hit my store again, so here I am. Fresh grapefruit juice is always my top choice for fancy cocktails like a grapefruit mule and this grapefruit vodka drink, although bottled grapefruit juice will do in a pinch.

In my house, cocktails are just as seasonal as meals. Summers are spent sipping lemon margaritas and tequila mojitos on the front porch, and winters are endured snuggled up on the couch with a hot caramel coffee or brandy old fashioned.

As we transition from summer to fall (or as I like to call it, Halloween food season) here in Michigan, I wanted to create a cocktail that will take us from one season right into the next. It’s a little lighter and brighter than my bourbon apple cider, which I reserve for the cold, snowy days.

I love the bright flavor of a classic Moscow mule, or even my bourbon mule recipe or a strawberry Moscow mule in the summer. And of course, when I think of autumn, caramel apples are one of the first things that comes to mind. Why not a fall Moscow mule?

So, I present you with this Caramel Apple Cider Mule. Serve with an autumn butter board for maximum deliciousness.

Fresh strawberry season is short but sweet here in Michigan. Some years I’m able to get out and pick my own, but if not, I’m always sure to pick some up at the farmer’s market.

Aside from making my dad his favorite strawberry pie for his birthday, I’m sure to buy enough berries for salads, snacking, smoothies, and everything in between.

Everything in between meaning drinks, I guess! I love making a pitcher of strawberry ginger lemonade or honey lemonade on a June afternoon for the whole family to enjoy.

And for an adults-only gathering, nothing refreshes quite like a Moscow mule. My ultimate goal is to make a mule for all seasons!

After over a year of not eating at restaurants, it’s easy to pinpoint what I miss most: brunch!

While carryout pizza and Chinese food is all well and good, carryout eggs benedict and brioche French toast is a definite no-go for me. Those things have to be eaten fresh out of the kitchen (not put in styrofoam, picked up and brought home).

And bloody mary bars. Oh, how I miss bloody mary bars. The kind where the bartender rims a glass with bloody mary salt, pours you a serving of vodka over ice, and then you head to the garnish buffet to top your drink with the bloody mix of your choice, and all the bloody mary garnish ideas you could ever want.

There were cheese cubes, olives, bacon in the oven, pickles, celery, etc etc etc.

With many of us putting on a brunch buffet for the moms in our life next weekend, let’s treat everybody to a round of bloody marys with a really special touch. Learn about the special rim salt in this post, and see my post about bloody mary skewers to replicate those at home.

I’ve talked about this before, but to me, cocktails are just as seasonal as food. Fall and winter are all about the whisky in our house, and also . . . White Russians. I’m not sure WHY they seem like a winter drink to me, but they just do. The creamy, almost dessert-like combo of milk, vodka and coffee liqueur is so comforting.

It’s kind of like winter’s version of an ice cream cone or something. Plus booze. I don’t know where I’m going with this. It probably only makes sense in my head, but my position is that White Russians are a cocktail and dessert wrapped up in one magical glass. You with me on this?

Except, what do you do before dinner? While heavy appetizers or too-strong drinks are a bad idea, you do need to offer something to keep the vultures out of the kitchen while you finish up dinner.
