This Spritz Cookie Recipe walks you through creating these exquisite treats, from the viewpoint of a spritz cookie novice. It will tell you everything you need to know about each step of the process so that you succeed at these festive delights the first time you ever make them.

The results of a spritz cookie recipe - red, green and white spritz cookies decorated for Christmas - in a small red decorative sled.

Spritz Cookie Recipe

For years, I would see Spritz Cookies on cookie trays and think there was simply no way I would ever be able to make those myself. Too fussy, too much chance of failure, I thought.

But, in a moment of fearlessness a few years ago, I bought a cookie press and tried my hand at it using another recipe. The cookies ended up turning out fine, but there were a lot of missing details I wish I had known, since it was my first time making them.

I’m here today to walk you through how to make spritz cookies, from the viewpoint of a spritz cookie novice. Along the way, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about each step of the process so that you succeed at these cookies the first time you ever make them.

What are Spritz Cookies?

Spritz cookies are delicate, buttery little treats that are often the prettiest part of a cookie tin or platter. Their distinctive shapes and melt-in-your-mouth texture make them a favorite for Christmas.

The name “spritz” comes from German word “spritzen,” meaning to squirt or spray, which describes how these cookies are made using a cookie press or piping bag.

Why you will love this recipe for Spritz Cookies

  • This is a meticulously crafted spritz cookie recipe from a culinary school graduate, taking into account the science behind each ingredient, to ensure your success.
  • The combination of vanilla and almond extracts create a nuanced flavor that’s both familiar and intriguing.
  • You’ll have so much fun decorating these using sprinkles and icing.

With layers that look just like candy corn, these Halloween Jello Shots are sure to be a hit with all of the ADULT trick-or-treaters this year!

Halloween Jello shots made with layers of yellow and orange Jello and whipped cream, topped with sprinkles.

Candy Corn Shots: A fun addition to your Halloween!

Don’t say I didn’t warn you: the Halloween food ideas continue this week! So far I’ve done savory things like a Halloween charcuterie board and Halloween salad and sweet things like Halloween dirt cups but I haven’t done any adult drink with alcohol in it yet!

Sure, they’re not as ksophicated as say, a cranberry rosemary cocktail, and Jello shots might make you flashback to college, but even when you’re well past that age, they can still be fun once in awhile!

Plus, my neighborhood has a tradition of giving out candy to the trick-or-treating kids but also adult drinks to the parents accompanying them. I’m willing to bet many other neighborhoods do this, too.

These Halloween Jello shots are perfect to hand out to ADULT trick-or-treaters or to serve at your next adults-only Halloween party. Have the kiddos stick to Halloween cake pops or Halloween cupcakes!

Halloween Dirt Cups are a creepy dessert that kids and adults alike will love. This super simple treat is layered with pudding, cookies and candy.

Halloween dirt cups made with layers of chocolate and orange colored pudding, crushed cookies and gummy worms. Three cups are arranged on a wooden cutting board and topped with candy pumpkins.

Give ’em pumpkin to talk about with these Halloween Pudding Cups!

If I’ve learned one thing over the past few years, it’s that Halloween food ideas are basically endless! If you can think of a dish or type of food, you can Halloween-ize it.

My Halloween charcuterie board and Halloween deviled eggs recipe are good examples. And today, I’m back with a treat that kids and kids at heart will love.

For many of us, dirt pudding brings on the childhood nostalgia. I didn’t have it at home, but I do remember it being offered as a birthday treat at school and parties.

If you’ve never had it, it’s layers of pudding (usually chocolate) and crushed up Oreo cookies. These ingredients provide the “dirt,” and then you can’t forget the gummy worms crawling out of the dirt!

I’ve spook-ified this classic dessert even more for these Halloween dirt cups.

These Shortcut Halloween Cake Pops are a quick and easy way to make a treat for Halloween. Using donut holes dipped in candy melts is the smart secret to a homemade look in half the time.

Purple, green and orange candy-coated Halloween cake pops decorated with candy eyeballs and sprinkles, sticking out a glass filled with white sugar and tied with an orange ribbon.

These Monster Cake Pops are so easy, it’s scary!

So, just to warn you: I have a LOT of Halloween food ideas coming up in the next month. If you’re a Halloween hater, you might want to check back occasionally for the non-Halloween recipes, but don’t say I didn’t warn you!

We are unabashedly Halloween lovers around here, and October can’t come and go without enjoying a Halloween charcuterie board and Halloween deviled eggs!

Is it normal to have an entire drawer in your house devoted to Halloween sprinkles and candy eyeballs of all sizes? And a skull mold to make cheese skulls for Halloween salad?

Maybe not, but here we are. These shortcut Halloween Cake Pops are made with mini donuts and donut holes, for an easy, adorable sweet treat with lots of eyeballs.

This Halloween Bark is the easiest sweet treat you’ll ever make. Adapt it for any holiday and use whatever toppings you like best.

I talked about my family’s love for Halloween last week when I shared my Halloween charcuterie board. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I’m sharing two Halloween recipes this year.

I even thought about going for three. I think I’m going to run out of time for that, but maybe I can make my jello shot recipe Halloween next year!

After a plate of spooky charcuterie and Halloween deviled eggs, or some of my other savory Halloween food ideas, I’m in the mood for something sweet.

This Halloween Bark recipe is just about the easiest Halloween treat you could ever make (right alongside my Halloween cupcakes), and it’s a sweet alternative to the traditional miniature candy bars at your next Halloween gathering.

These Frozen Chocolate Covered Banana Bites are a special treat for a hot summer day. Dip frozen bananas in chocolate and then sprinkle with nuts, coconut, granola or sprinkles!

Chocolate covered banana bites on toothpicks on rectangular white tray.

“There’s always money in the banana stand!!!” Who’s an Arrested Development fan out there? I treasure the original series on DVD, and re-watch the whole show every few years (or, in a pinch, just watch the “Pier Pressure” episode (The Hot Cops!)).

From The Cornballer to Lucille Two’s vertigo. From “It’s an illusion, Michael” to life lessons with J. Walter Weatherman. From Tobias being a Nevernude to “No Touching!,” I love it all.

However, anything involving the frozen banana stand is my favorite bit of the show. Sadly, I don’t have a banana stand lined with hundred dollar bills, but I do have a bunch of chocolate chips and some frozen banana chunks (I used some bananas to make caramelized banana splits, and a few for banana pancake ice cream, and then froze the rest).

I’m a sucker for cold desserts in the summer, like frozen yogurt pie and peaches and cream ice cream bars. And, I’d been wanting to make my very own chocolate covered bananas for pretty much as long as I’ve been watching AD, so I finally crossed it off my bucket list.

These frozen chocolate covered bananas are the perfect treat to eat while you’re on a TV-watching binge, no matter what show it is.

Celebrate one sweet birthday with these Brownie Bowls for Ice Cream. No special equipment needed - they're made in a cupcake pan! | foxeslovelemons.com

Last Saturday was my daughter Vida’s first birthday. Time really does fly as fast as everybody says it does. It certainly seems like it was just yesterday that I was announcing her birth. It’s been a year of watching her grow like a weed, listening to her sweet baby giggle, and (thankfully!) quite a bit of sleep.

I know a lot of people say that a first birthday party is really about the parents. About them surviving that first year. Truthfully, I don’t feel like we’ve had to “survive” at all.

We’ll be the first to tell you that we completely lucked out – V is a happy-go-lucky kid who is rarely upset except when we try to feed her bananas. So this first birthday party was really about celebrating how awesome the past year has been.

One of my favorite things to make with strawberries is ice cream. I’ve always done classic-but-delicious traditional strawberry in the past, but this time I decided to throw some graham cracker crumbs and rainbow sprinkles in for a Pop-Tart effect.
