These New Year’s Eve Appetizers are 98% store-bought, for a low effort, but high impact, charcuterie board-style spread of finger foods.

Platter filled with New Year's appetizers, including shrimp, cheese, cookies, wontons, cannoli and quiche.

Get festive with these New Year’s Eve Food ideas

Recently, I was talking with a neighbor about a dilemma she was having for New Year’s Eve: her and her friends need some sort of dinner, but nobody wants to cook and their group is too big for a restaurant reservation.

I’m guessing this could be quite a common issue, so I figured I would put together a board of New Year’s Eve appetizers that eats more like a light dinner, with cheese AND charcuterie AND seafood AND sweet treats AND even a simple homemade appetizer, if you want.

While this board of New Year’s Eve finger food looks pretty epic, it actually consists of one item I made, a few things I heated up in the oven, and 98% stuff I bought at the store.

This post will give you a ton of ideas to put together the New Year’s appetizers spread of your dreams. The board pictured here is for a big crowd, but if your gathering is a little smaller, just cut it down to a few of your favorite things.

Why you will love a New Year’s Eve Charcuterie Board

  • Low Effort, High Impact. Almost everything you see in these photos was simply purchased at the store and unwrapped or unboxed. But wow, what an impact when it’s all presented together!
  • Versatility – A big board like this gives you the chance to offer a mix of flavors, from savory to sweet, and also makes it pretty easy to cater to dietary restrictions, if needed.

Elevate your holiday feast with a Christmas Salad with crisp greens, juicy oranges, pom seeds, cheese and nuts. The zesty homemade orange dressing is what sets this one apart!

A Christmas Salad recipe made with greens, oranges, cheese, pomegranate seeds and nuts, arranged like a wreath with a bowl of dressing in the middle.

The perfect salad for Christmas Dinner

No matter what your entree is for Christmas dinner, I’m willing to be that this Christmas Salad will go with it.

It’s a combination of peppery arugula and crisp radicchio, topped with juicy oranges, creamy goat cheese, cinnamon roasted almonds and beautiful pomegranate seeds.

But the thing that sets this salad apart is the zesty orange dressing. It’s creamy but not too creamy, filled with the flavor of fresh orange juice, sweetened with a bit of honey, and made a bit tangy by white wine vinegar and Dijon mustard.

Why you will love this Salad for Christmas

  • You can arrange it like a holiday wreath on a round platter with a bowl of dressing in the middle for a stunning presentation!
  • It’s versatile and customizable. You can play around with the greens, cheese and nuts, based on what you like and what you have on hand.
  • This salad, with its zesty orange dressing and peppery greens, is a nice counterpoint to rich, creamy casseroles and heavy meat dishes that usually dominate the holiday table.

If you’re looking for a bright and fresh Thanksgiving Salad, this is the one with the best seasonal ingredients that you can prep in advance!

A large round platter filled with Thanksgiving Salad made with pears, pomegranate seeds, roasted acorn squash, candied pecans, Parmesan cheese and mixed greens. The toppings are arranged over the greens in rows.

Get ready for the Best Thanksgiving Salad

For me, Thanksgiving dinner usually isn’t complete without a salad, and I’ve made this same really good Thanksgiving green salad recipe year after year.

This salad for Thanksgiving is a combination of sweet and savory flavors using seasonal ingredients, and it’s easy to prep a lot of it in advance. Simply toss it together right before dinner!

Why you will love this Thanksgiving Salad Recipe

  • Make the dressing and roast the squash in advance, so all you have to do before dinner is toss everything together!
  • Since there are usually lots of rich, heavier dishes on the holiday table (hello cheesy corn casserole and Cajun turkey), I find that a light and fresh salad with an acidic dressing like this one really helps to balance everything out.
  • It’s a good place in your menu to incorporate seasonal ingredients that you may not want to dedicate an entire side dish to. Fall squash can be highlighted in this salad, or even roasted sweet potatoes instead if you’re not serving them as their own dish.

A build-your-own yogurt bar is a fun and healthy addition to a brunch gathering. Customize yogurt toppings to suit different tastes, preferences and dietary restrictions.

A yogurt bar set up on a blue background, with bowls of toppings including granola, waffle cone chunks, lemon curd, fruit, coconut, oranges and chocolate chunks.

Anybody else remember those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books? Man, I could get DOWN with those things. Pretty sure I’d read one tomorrow if it showed up in my neighborhood’s Little Free Library.

Well, this build-your-own yogurt bar is the food equivalent of one of those books. Want all healthy yogurt toppings? Load up on fruit and lemon cardamom granola. Want more decadent toppings for yogurt? Some chocolate chunks and waffle cone bits are waiting for you.

The recipe card below includes approximate amounts for a yogurt parfait bar for 8 people, but you can set up all of these ingredients in any quantity for any number of people. Just change your serving bowl sizes accordingly.

Round out your brunch buffet with vegetarian quiche and some bacon in the oven, and you have the perfect Mother’s Day or bridal shower morning meal.

Use some shortcuts from the grocery store to put together everything on this Thanksgiving Charcuterie Board in 30 minutes or less, with the beautiful colors and flavors of autumn.

A Thanksgiving charcuterie board, including cured meats, cheeses, nuts, olives, fruit and crackers, arranged on a large wooden cutting board.

Thanksgiving Charcuterie Board Ideas for your holiday spread

Coming up with fun charcuterie board ideas is something about my job that I simply never tire of. I’ve already done everything from a Halloween charcuterie board to an Easter charcuterie board to a huge platter of Valentine’s snacks, but I’m not nearly out of new boards to create.

While many of my existing ideas, including jarcuterie and the wine and cheese board (and even my butter board) are already quite perfect for Thanksgiving appetizers, I wanted to create a fall charcuterie board that was truly specific to this holiday.

Below, I’ll walk you through how I shop for and build this lovely Thanksgiving charcuterie board. I guarantee you it’s easier than it looks!

Roasted Acorn Squash Slices are the prettiest autumn side dish. With just a few ingredients and minimal prep, this stunning vegetable will be the star of your holiday table, but also perfect for a weeknight.

Roasted acorn squash slices garnished with pomegranate seeds and chopped parsley, lined up on a white platter.

These Roasted Acorn Squash Slices are the perfect side dish

I’ve always believed that sometimes, the simplest dishes are not only the most flavorful, but the most beautiful as well. Just like my honey roasted carrots and balsamic green beans, today’s recipe is the epitome of that sentiment.

These roasted acorn squash slices on their own would be the perfect addition to a Thanksgiving salad, or all dressed up with parsley and pomegranate and added as a side dish to your Thanksgiving recipes binder (I’m not the only one with one, right?).

I especially love the sweetness of this dish paired with Cajun turkey and chorizo stuffing. And like my mini Hasselback potatoes, this dish may LOOK pretty fancy, but couldn’t be simpler to execute.

This roasted acorn squash recipe is also the perfect side dish for any dinner this fall. I particularly love it paired with Instant Pot short ribs or salmon with my bourbon glaze recipe for salmon.

Grab everything pink, red and white that you can find, and a heart-shaped cookie cutter, and put together these easy and fun Valentine’s Day snacks for your kids, friends, or sweetheart.

Large oval platter filled with red, pink and white Valentine's Day snacks, including cheese, charcuterie, fruits, vegetables, crackers and sweets.

While you generally won’t find me going out to a fancy restaurant for a pre fixe dinner on Valentine’s Day, I still like to mark the occasion in some way at home.

Sometimes I’ll make a special Valentine’s Day dinner of lasagna cottage cheese or my crab-stuffed salmon recipe but other years, it’s just easy Valentine’s dessert shooters after a takeout pizza.

And sometimes I’ll just feel like snacking with fun charcuterie board ideas and following it up with some chocolate creme brulee.

You all know I love an epic snack board, as I’ve already shared everything from my wine and cheese board to a spooky Halloween charcuterie board to a fall-themed Thanksgiving charcuterie board.

Whether you’re hosting a Galentine’s party for the girls, or having a cozy night in with your sweetie, why not put together a Valentine’s Day snack platter of your own this year? I’ll explain it all, including the best way to make heart shaped food, below.

Christmas Fruit Salad tossed with an orange, honey and cinnamon dressing is a colorful, healthful side dish on your holiday table. Serve arranged as a tree or simply in your prettiest bowl.

Christmas fruit salad made with grapes, raspberries, pomegranate seeds, kiwi, pineapple and green apple, arranged in a green Christmas tree shaped baking pan.

As I mentioned yesterday, my Thanksgiving Salad and Thanksgiving Fruit Salad recipes have become among the most popular content on this site.

So, I also created a salad for Christmas and Easter salad, and I’m back today with a Christmas Fruit Salad, too. Fruit salad may or may not be something that has a spot on your holiday table, and that’s OK.

I think it’s a nice addition to a meal for a large crowd, especially if lots of kids are in attendance. Even if they won’t eat anything else on their plate, you can usually get a kid to eat a scoop of fruit salad (especially when it’s served in an adorable jar like my Easter fruit salad).

But this holiday fruit salad is delicious for taste buds of all ages. The sweet fruit is balanced with a dressing made with fresh orange juice, honey and seasonal spices. Serve it arranged as a Christmas tree or simply tossed together.

It’s also great as a Christmas breakfast fruit salad or a Christmas brunch fruit salad as part of a brunch buffet.

Thanksgiving Fruit Salad is a vibrant, healthy addition to your holiday table. Colorful chopped fruit is tossed with a simple honey dressing for a delicious, easy side dish.

Oval turquoise ceramic bowl filled with Thanksgiving fruit salad made with oranges, grapes, apples, pears, kiwi, pomegranate seeds, dried cranberries and pecans.

Just like almost every food blogger you might follow, I’m double checking my Thanksgiving recipes list this year and trying to figure out what I might be missing. If there’s something that I don’t have that you’d like to see, please, let me know. I love suggestions for what to publish next!

So far, I’ve figured out while I have a classic roasted turkey with maple bourbon glaze and a Cajun turkey, I don’t have a ham recipe (although I do already have a recipe for leftover ham and potato soup, oddly). I’ll be fixing that with a delicious new ham recipe published here in a few weeks.

I also realized I didn’t have a classic gravy, so I published my technique for how to make gravy from scratch.

And while I have a very popular Thanksgiving salad, Christmas salad and Easter salad recipes, I don’t yet have a Thanksgiving fruit salad recipe.

Thanksgiving fruit salad (and Christmas fruit salad) may or may not be something that has a spot on your holiday table, and that’s OK. I think it’s a nice addition to a meal for a large crowd (even a brunch buffet), especially if lots of kids are in attendance. Kids love fruit an absurd amount.

But this fall fruit salad is delicious for taste buds of all ages. The sweet fruit is balanced with a bright and delicious dressing. Serve it in your prettiest bowl.
