While it used to be that my husband was the biggest Halloween fan I’d ever met, and I was just along for the ride, somewhere along the way, I really started enjoying it all, too.

This Burrata Peach Salad is the perfect balance of flavor.

Since I’m not the world’s biggest fan of peaches eaten on their own or in sweet dishes, my goal this summer was to make the best savory peach dish ever.

This Burrata Peach Salad lives up to those expectations and more.

While many peach burrata salads also include tomatoes or avocado for filler, or prosciutto, this one needs no filler or meat at all.

The co-stars of this show are lots of juicy grilled peaches and luscious burrata cheese.

The supporting players are a flurry of fresh herbs, pine nuts, and a sweet-savory dressing made with honey and shallots.

The special guest star is some rustic pesto croutons which you’ll want to gobble up before they even make it onto the salad.

I’m bringing you this recipe today for no reason other than it’s so many of my favorite ingredients all on one platter (which is exactly what my Easter salad and smoked salmon pizza recipes ended up being, as well).

An online grocery ordering snafu brought me a gigantic package of goat cheese instead of the smaller one I thought I was getting. So after I used what I needed for goat cheese pasta salad, I decided to make some fried goat cheese for another meal.

Well, strawberries pair really well with goat cheese (when I’m not using them all in strawberry Moscow mules). And avocados pair with strawberries. And basil and honey and balsamic vinaigrette pair with all of that!

This fried goat cheese salad recipe is decadent while still somehow tasting light and fresh. It’s a plate of food I dream about and crave often!

I’ve been on a mission the past few years to bring you the best recipes that my family and I really love. They might not always be the fanciest or the prettiest (looking at you, crock pot ribs and slow cooker beef stroganoff), but they’re tried and true! And I hope that you’ve been enjoying them.

Often, our weeknight meals are a protein, a carb and veggies, all mixed together. There’s no better way to do that than with a pasta dish.

Salmon pasta (with lots of spinach stirred in), taco mac and cheese, and mushroom and lentil pasta sauce are all weeknight favorites around here, both for the adults and the toddler.

And then there’s this comforting recipe! Whether it’s salmon pesto pasta, or pesto pasta with chicken and veggies like this one, pesto + noodles is just SO simple and so good.

It comes together quickly, but it’s packed with delicious goodies like sun-dried tomatoes, pine nuts, and little balls of mozzarella cheese. I hope you love it as much as we do.

If you’ve followed this blog for any length of time, you know that I’m not much of a baker or a dessert maker.

Every once in awhile, I’ll get inspired and bust out an apple rose tart or some cute little cupcakes, but the ratio of savory recipes to sweet recipes on this blog is probably about 10 to 1.

Savory food is my thing, whether I’m developing new recipes, or ordering food at a restaurant. Offer me a cheese course instead of dessert, and I am here. for. it. Heck, give me a breakfast charcuterie board or a Halloween themed charcuterie board!

I gotta say, it’s STILL not really feeling like autumn here in Detroit. Temperatures keep hovering around the 70’s, making shorts and t-shirts a very real option for late October (which is not really typical for this area).

It’s hard to get in the mindset of Thanksgiving menu planning and holiday parties and festive cocktails and New Year’s Eve finger foods when you’re still wearing shorts, you know?

Be that as it may, I forced myself to get into the kitchen and start brainstorming some easy entertaining ideas, because I want us all to be prepared with lots of great back-pocket options for when the holidays DO strike (whether the colder weather comes along for the ride or not).

Here in Michigan, we take eating and entertaining outdoors pretty seriously in the summer months. It’s because we can’t take it for granted. It’s not like we have mild temperatures all year – a backyard barbecue in February would just lead to frost bite all around.

So in the summer, nearly all of our meals are eaten outside, just because they can be. Whether it’s a weeknight dinner for two, or a big backyard gathering with friends and neighbors, all food tastes best when eaten outdoors. It’s a proven fact.

Since we’ve been so busy lately moving between houses, a self-imposed easiest dinners ever diet of hot dogs, burgers and brats seemed like a good idea for a few weeks.

But because our old house just hit the market finally, the amount of stuff that we can move has started to dwindle, as we need to leave the old house “staged” for prospective buyers.

So instead of spending every evening packing boxes and moving until we fall into bed exhausted, we’re starting to get some free time back again. And with that, comes the ability to make a dinner that isn’t served on a paper plate and devoured as quickly as possible between trips between houses.
