Get ready for the most tender and flavorful Crockpot Pork Roast

The humble boneless pork shoulder doesn’t get enough love, in my opinion. Maybe because it’s also referred to as pork BUTT?

Sausage and Peppers Pasta is a weeknight wonder!

What are the go to weeknight meals in your home?

For my family, it’s all about those all-in-one recipes, where your carbs, protein and veggies all come from the same recipe, no side dishes needed.

This Italian Sausage Pasta Recipe is a classic example. Ground sausage comes together with lots of onions and bell peppers in a simple tomato sauce, then you toss everything with pasta and dinner is served.

Why you’ll love this Sausage Pasta Skillet

  • Customize it to your liking. Make it spicier, or change up the veggies!
  • No rigatoni? No problem. Use any pasta shape you have on hand.
  • You’ll be in and out of the kitchen in 30 minutes.

Inspired by a traditional Irish dish, Colcannon Soup is a comforting potato and cabbage soup that’s hearty enough to eat as a meal.

Three blue bowls on a blue linen, filled with cabbage potato soup garnished with sliced leeks and crispy bacon.

When you’ve been blogging for as long as I have (10 years, if you remember from my lemon curd cake post!), it’s easy to think you have just about every recipe possible in your archive.

But one thing that I very much come up short on is Irish-inspired recipes for St. Patrick’s Day, other than my mini shepherds pies and Baileys brownies.

But watching The Banshees of Inisherin apparently has me inspired, so I have a few new ones planned for this year, including corned beef egg rolls, and this Colcannon Soup recipe.

This soup is inspired by a traditional Irish dish that I was lucky enough to taste while working as a food stylist years ago. The combination of potatoes and cabbage may seem a little boring, but I can promise you that the flavor of the finished cabbage potato soup is anything but!

This is the BEST Chicken Stroganoff Recipe

Is there anything more cliche than having a doctor’s checkup just before you turn 40 and being told that maybe it’s time you start watching your cholesterol?

Probably not, but here we are. This website certainly isn’t going to be come health food central, but it may be time to cut back on testing new creme brulee flavors quite as frequently.

And a big source of cholesterol in many diets is red meat. Now, truthfully, we don’t eat a ton of red meat, but there are still a few ways we could cut back further.

So I’ve been looking at some of our favorite dishes made with beef and figuring out some easy swaps to reduce cholesterol.

Luckily, I enjoy chicken sloppy joes just as much as the beef ones. Black bean meatballs and mushroom tacos can stand in for their meatier counterparts once in awhile.

And while I love crock pot beef stroganoff so much (and it’s one of the most popular recipes on this site!), I’ve recently discovered that chicken stroganoff can be every bit as delicious. In fact, I find myself liking it even more than the original!

Honey Mustard Pork Chops are easy enough for a weeknight, but delicious enough for a special occasion. Make the juicy pork chops and the sweet and tangy sauce in one skillet!

A cast iron skillet filled with honey mustard pork chops, and a spoon to scoop the sauce.

I’m always trying to make sure that this website has a well rounded selection of recipes. I was surprised to discover that I don’t have all that many pork recipes.

While I do have a recipe for pork chops and applesauce, beyond that, most of my pork recipes are ribs, like country style pork ribs oven or crock pot ribs.

That’s kind of funny, because my family and I eat pork chops quite frequently! We have a great local butcher shop that sells delicious thick-cut chops, so they’re a frequent meal for us.

I like to keep my pork chop dinners pretty simple. If you buy good-quality meat, it honestly doesn’t need much more than a quick sear in a skillet and then into the oven for a few minutes. Sometimes I’m splurge and make homemade gravy to go with them. But, most of the time, if I’m feeling fancy and have 5 extra minutes, these honey mustard pork chops are what I’ll make.

Cajun Turkey has just the right amount of heat without being overwhelmingly hot. It also has a FAST cooking method, taking just 2 hours or so!

Cajun Turkey Recipe

If you’ve ever had a Thanksgiving turkey that was dry and flavorless, it’s only natural that turkey might now be your least favorite thing on your plate for this holiday.

But it doesn’t have to be this way, and this Cajun Turkey Recipe is here to save the day.

Using an easy homemade Cajun turkey rub, we’ll be seasoning the bird to perfection, cooking it FAST in a hot oven so it stays super juicy, and making the most flavorful gravy from the drippings.

Why you’ll love this Cajun Turkey Seasoning

  • This rub has a customizable spice level. If your crowd prefers a more mild turkey, simple scale back or omit the cayenne pepper.
  • Make a double batch, because the rub is versatile enough to elevate any poultry dish, any time of the year. Add a kick to chicken breasts!
  • The cooking method is FAST. No need to dedicate 4 hours to roasting your turkey – it’ll be done in 2 hours or so.

Cajun Salmon Pasta brings penne, roasted salmon, mushrooms, zucchini and sundried tomatoes together in a creamy, zesty sauce that will transport you to New Orleans!

Textured gray ceramic shallow bowl filled with Cajun salmon pasta topped with parsley and cheese, garnished with a lemon wedge, with a fork digging into it.

While the heartbreak of the pandemic has closed several of my favorite restaurants, others luckily remain open. But even some of those that have been able to hang on are still operating with a limited menu due to staffing issues.

Our local Cajun and Creole restaurant is an example of this. They used to have a very delicious Cajun shrimp pasta on the menu, but these days only focus on po’ boy sandwiches.

So, since I’m always looking for ways to add to my library of salmon recipes, I decided to try my hand at Cajun Salmon Pasta at home.

Just like my creamy salmon pasta and pesto salmon, this seafood dish is a breeze to prepare on a weeknight, but will make you feel like you’re enjoying a special restaurant meal!

Every home cook should know how to make easy homemade gravy from scratch, and this recipe is tried and true. Make with meat or poultry drippings, or just use broth.

This is truly the Best Gravy Recipe

I’ve been pretty bored lately. Almost like I’ve been mostly at home for the past 20 months or something? Anyway, I’ve started going back and re-watching some of the old seasons of Top Chef.

One episode that I watched recently had a challenge where they had to prepare classical French recipes, which instantly transported me back to my culinary school days.

One recipe they needed to prepare was veloute, which is really just a fancy French word for gravy. This got me thinking – I don’t have a classic gravy recipe on this blog yet (although I do have bacon gravy). What? Well, that is being corrected right now.

Knowing how to make an easy homemade gravy using a roux of flour and butter plus broth is one of the most versatile kitchen skills that you can master, and I’m sharing my technique for how to make gravy from scratch today.

Whether you’re drizzling it over mashed potatoes with heavy cream or roasted turkey with maple bourbon glaze or Cajun turkey, you’ll want this recipe in your back pocket this holiday season.

This simple Instant Pot Butternut Squash Soup cooks in just 6 minutes! Finishing with goat cheese adds a special touch that makes this a restaurant-quality dish you can easily make at home. | foxeslovelemons.com

It’s kind of a big day around here, because this is the first Instant Pot recipe I’ve shared on this blog! I actually bought an Instant Pot this past spring, because a client requested some freelance recipe development using one.

I borrowed an Instant Pot cookbook from the library and made a bunch of recipes to learn how to use the appliance (including Instant Pot short ribs and Instant Pot sweet and sour chicken), then completed the freelance project.

Then, I kind of tucked the pot in my office and forgot about it all summer.

Until now, because this Instant Pot Butternut Squash Soup with Goat Cheese is on the scene! While I love a long simmered crockpot soup and Old Fashioned Ham and Bean Soup on my stovetop, the depth of flavor of a pressured cooked soup just can’t be beat.

Not cooking for a huge crowd this Thanksgiving? This Blue Cheese & Apple Turkey Breast Roulade makes 6 servings, and can be prepped a day in advance. It is so packed with sweet and savory flavor that you might end up wishing you had made two! | foxeslovelemons.com

I know in Monday’s post, I sort of lamented about how small my Thanksgiving gathering is, thus, not allowing me to make a HUGE Thanksgiving recipes list with a million different dishes. I shouldn’t complain at all, because the way things are means it’s simple and relatively easy to prepare the meal.

I’ve heard from several of you in the past few days, and it turns out, small family groups similar to my own are very common for Thanksgiving. Not everybody is cooking for 30!

And while I DO have a recipe for a whole roasted turkey being published next Monday (and a corresponding leftover turkey chili recipe), I wanted to share a turkey recipe fit for a smaller gathering today.

This Blue Cheese & Apple Turkey Breast Roulade provides about five pounds of turkey, making it just the right size for my family of six. If you had a slightly larger (but still pretty small) guest list, you could serve this roulade plus a few roasted turkey drumsticks.
