With grocery prices going up and up, steak isn’t something that we buy very often. Ground beef is more affordable, but what can you do with it besides tacos, spaghetti and burgers?

Turns out, ground beef stir fry with rice is a delicious way to prepare this standby weeknight protein.

While stir fry is usually made with sliced steak or chicken, I actually kind of prefer it with ground meat! The little bits of meat get crispy and delicious, and it makes a really nice bite when served with rice.

This Oven Roasted Broccoli will be the star of your dinner

Like balsamic green beans, broccoli is a vegetable my family eats every single week, without fail. So it’s strange that out of nearly 700 published posts, only 4 of them, including salmon Alfredo, feature broccoli at all, and broccoli isn’t the *star* of any of them.

Broccoli CAN and SHOULD be a star on your dinner plate. It doesn’t have to be boring. It doesn’t have to be bland. It doesn’t have to be diet food.

Just like roasted glazed carrots, this Roasted Broccoli with Lemon and Parmesan is so good that there won’t be a single bite of leftovers when you serve it, I promise you. Adults and kids alike (with some simple modifications) will gobble it down.

The combination of roasted brown goodness on the broccoli, combined with Parmesan cheese, lots of lemon zest and juice and red pepper flakes will earn this a permanent spot in your side dish rotation.

I was recently walking around Ann Arbor, Michigan, doing some reminiscing about my college years. Specifically, about restaurants I went to with my then-boyfriend, now husband.

It seemed that from the very beginning, we were comfortable eating whatever we wanted in front of each other. At one favorite place, we would both get ribs.

At another, we regularly order an appetizer that was nothing more than a few heads of roasted garlic that you’d scoop out and spread on toasted bread. I guess if we both had garlic breath, we couldn’t smell each other!

Another dish I often remember Jeff ordering back then was chicken fettuccine alfredo. Hey, he had the appetite and the metabolism of a 19-year-old boy! I did and still do prefer rigatoni meat sauce or fettuccine bolognese.

Today, I’ve updated college Jeff’s favorite dish by swapping out the chicken for salmon, and adding broccoli.

Like my popular salmon recipes, like creamy salmon pasta and pesto salmon, this salmon alfredo pasta is a great way to introduce non-fish lovers to the joys of salmon. My 2-year-old chowed this down!

When I throw parties, I always like to have a wide variety of dishes for guests to choose from.

While (luckily) there aren’t any major food allergies or special diets in my group of friends and family, I still like to offer a range of options, including plenty of fresh, healthy-ish things in addition to the typical party decadence of snack foods and desserts.

I love pretty much all vegetables so much that I have no problem fitting them in my daily routine. Especially when the vegetables are roasted and browned and toasted and all those good things. But, if you have a kid (or adult!) in your family that needs a little convincing when it comes to vegetables, I’ve found that the best thing to do is sneak them into all things pizza-related. Simply put them on top of a pizza, or in a pizza-flavored noodle skillet dish.

Fun fact about me: when I was a kid, it seemed like I won nearly every contest or drawing I entered. I had the best luck! Random drawings? I won them.

Coloring contests in the newspaper? I rocked those Crayolas. Reading contests? I read the most books. Contests to sell the most boxes of Girl Scout cookies? I went straight to the rich people’s houses in the neighborhood.

I even won “guess how many ____ are in this ___” contests. I distinctly remember the movie theater having a contest to guess how many gum balls or something were in a big jar.

I guessed closest, and thus received an Adult XL size “Honey I Blew Up The Kid” t-shirt. Perfect for a nine-year-old girl, yes?

With the Golden Globes happening this past weekend, my Oscar frenzy is in full swing. You see, I was a film minor in college. I love movies, especially really good ones (not so much most blockbusters).

Most years, I’m able to see every single Best Picture nominee before the Oscars. While the nominations won’t be announced until Thursday, I already have a pretty good idea of what will be nominated, and have planned accordingly.
