This recipe for Pork Chops and Applesauce is an updated take on a classic favorite. Make the applesauce up to 5 days in advance, and add a little kick of spice to it if you want!

Shallow blue bowl filled with sliced pork chops and applesauce.

Tender and juicy Pork Chop and Applesauce recipe

Pork chops and applesauce are a classic combination, and you can just never go wrong with something so classic.

This recipe elevates the traditional dish by making homemade applesauce with an optional bit of spice to liven things up.

Why do you put applesauce on Pork Chops?

While some people might shy away from eating fruit and meat together, they’re actually a great pairing.

The natural sweetness and tanginess of apples complement the richness of the thick double-cut pork chop, satisfying your taste buds.

And while the recipe below will ensure that your pork chops end up perfectly juicy, if you DO accidentally overcook them a bit, the applesauce is there for you to add some moisture back to every bite of pork.

Why you will love this Pork Chops with Applesauce

  • The applesauce can be made in advance (like when you have more time on the weekend) and refrigerated up to 5 days, making this a quick weeknight dinner option.
  • Customize this to your family’s taste buds – if you want to make the applesauce spicy, you can, or you can skip that part and stick with classic applesauce.
  • It’s a great way to enjoy apples when they’re at their best. Did you go to an apple orchard and come home with about a million apples? This recipe will use 6 of them!

This sophisticated yet easy Apple Cider Old Fashioned requires no obscure ingredients or cocktail shaker, but will make you feel like a fancy bartender.

Apple cider old fashioned cocktails in two different glasses (1 tall, 1 short), on a tray with a whole apple.

Apple Cider Old Fashioned

It’s fall here in Michigan, which means one thing – apple season! Today, I’m sharing an apple cider version of my favorite cocktail – the old fashioned.

This apple cider bourbon cocktail recipe incorporates the classic elements of an old fashioned – bitters, orange peel and bourbon, but with a few unique twists.

Instead of the traditional sugar cube that’s usually muddled with the orange peel to add sweetness, I am using maple syrup to sweeten this apple cider old fashioned!

Most old fashioneds do not have any sort of “mixer” added to them – they are, essentially, bourbon over ice, with a little bit of sugar and bitters. While I love them the classic way, I will admit that sometimes, it’s a little strong for me.

So, topping this old fashioned off with apple cider makes it a little more of an easy drinking cocktail.

Why you will love this Apple Cider Bourbon Cocktail

  • No cocktail shaker needed. Make as many or as few servings as you want, right in the glasses they’ll be served in.
  • No fancy ingredients needed, either. If you have a fairly stocked bar cabinet, an orange, and some apple cider, you’re all set.
  • Omit the bourbon for a great mocktail idea.

It’s a trend for a reason! Learn how to make an Autumn Butter Board topped with delicious fall ingredients like apple butter, herbs, fresh apples and nuts.

A butter board made with apple butter, fresh apples, nuts and herbs on a wooden cutting board, with bread and crackers for dipping.

I’m not on TikTok. The only TikToks I see are the ones my friends text me, or the ones popular enough to eventually make their way onto Instagram. Honestly, if I signed up, I’d probably spend way too much time on it, so I’m OK staying off of it.

This means that most of the current food trends fly right past me, because most of them originate on TikTok. But once in awhile, some, like jarcuterie and breakfast charcuterie boards are popular enough that even I can’t ignore them.

One of the original TikTok trends, Dalgona coffee, has made it’s way into my repertoire, and when I’m not making caramel iced coffee, I’m still making Dalgona coffee (more like still trying to make my way through the HUGE jar of instant coffee granules I bought).

And recently, of course, I haven’t been able to miss the butter boards making the rounds on all forms of social media. Whether you love them, hate them or haven’t tried one yet, I’m sure you’ve also realized they’re impossible to ignore.

Give me room temperature salted butter any day of the week, and I’m in. And with it being apple season (also known as autumn) here in Pure Michigan, I thought I would combine butter with APPLE butter made from Michigan Apples to create my own spin on this wild, fun trend.

Grab some friends, and, for those over the age of 21, a round of bourbon apple cider cocktails or caramel apple mules, and let’s dive in to this butter board recipe!

These fall off the bone Instant Pot Short Ribs are the definition of comfort food. With a savory apple chutney that’s cooked in the same pot, this is a restaurant-quality dish for the home chef.

Shallow blue bowl filled with mashed potatoes, topped with braised beef and garnished with thyme.

I’ve been super, super into short ribs lately. My mom made me a batch of her beef begetable soup slow cooker last month, and I also made Smitten Kitchen’s short rib onion soup over Christmas break (so good!).

I wanted to make another short rib dish where they were utilized in something other than soup.

And while I don’t go quite as gaga for the Instant Pot as some people do, I think this appliance shines when it comes to something that’s usually slow braised.

While I love my slow cooker for baby back ribs like crock pot ribs (with my dry rub for ribs slathered on first), and a conventional oven for root beer ribs, the Instant Pot was the perfect choice for these braised short ribs with sweet and savory apple chutney.

Christmas Fruit Salad tossed with an orange, honey and cinnamon dressing is a colorful, healthful side dish on your holiday table. Serve arranged as a tree or simply in your prettiest bowl.

Christmas fruit salad made with grapes, raspberries, pomegranate seeds, kiwi, pineapple and green apple, arranged in a green Christmas tree shaped baking pan.

As I mentioned yesterday, my Thanksgiving Salad and Thanksgiving Fruit Salad recipes have become among the most popular content on this site.

So, I also created a salad for Christmas and Easter salad, and I’m back today with a Christmas Fruit Salad, too. Fruit salad may or may not be something that has a spot on your holiday table, and that’s OK.

I think it’s a nice addition to a meal for a large crowd, especially if lots of kids are in attendance. Even if they won’t eat anything else on their plate, you can usually get a kid to eat a scoop of fruit salad (especially when it’s served in an adorable jar like my Easter fruit salad).

But this holiday fruit salad is delicious for taste buds of all ages. The sweet fruit is balanced with a dressing made with fresh orange juice, honey and seasonal spices. Serve it arranged as a Christmas tree or simply tossed together.

It’s also great as a Christmas breakfast fruit salad or a Christmas brunch fruit salad as part of a brunch buffet.

Phyllo Dough Cups

My favorite shortcut to the easiest appetizers that also seem the fanciest are store-bought phyllo cups.

You can find these in the freezer section of the grocery store (although sometimes they are sold at room temperature around the holidays), and all you do is open the box up and fill the cups to your liking.

But because they are so dainty and pretty looking with their fluted edges, any appetizer made with these cups automatically ends up feeling super fancy.

These Phyllo Cup Appetizers have a filling made with salty bacon, sweet apple, tangy goat cheese and melty Gouda cheese. They’re so good that a batch will disappear quickly, so you might want to make a double batch!

Thanksgiving Fruit Salad is a vibrant, healthy addition to your holiday table. Colorful chopped fruit is tossed with a simple honey dressing for a delicious, easy side dish.

Oval turquoise ceramic bowl filled with Thanksgiving fruit salad made with oranges, grapes, apples, pears, kiwi, pomegranate seeds, dried cranberries and pecans.

Just like almost every food blogger you might follow, I’m double checking my Thanksgiving recipes list this year and trying to figure out what I might be missing. If there’s something that I don’t have that you’d like to see, please, let me know. I love suggestions for what to publish next!

So far, I’ve figured out while I have a classic roasted turkey with maple bourbon glaze and a Cajun turkey, I don’t have a ham recipe (although I do already have a recipe for leftover ham and potato soup, oddly). I’ll be fixing that with a delicious new ham recipe published here in a few weeks.

I also realized I didn’t have a classic gravy, so I published my technique for how to make gravy from scratch.

And while I have a very popular Thanksgiving salad, Christmas salad and Easter salad recipes, I don’t yet have a Thanksgiving fruit salad recipe.

Thanksgiving fruit salad (and Christmas fruit salad) may or may not be something that has a spot on your holiday table, and that’s OK. I think it’s a nice addition to a meal for a large crowd (even a brunch buffet), especially if lots of kids are in attendance. Kids love fruit an absurd amount.

But this fall fruit salad is delicious for taste buds of all ages. The sweet fruit is balanced with a bright and delicious dressing. Serve it in your prettiest bowl.

Stuffed Baked Apples – Perfect for Fall!

It’s inevitable as the passage of time – toward the end of the winter, I start to long for spring and summer food. And toward the end of the summer, I start to long for fall and winter food.

Even though we’ve had record warm October days in Michigan recently, the calendar still says it’s fall, so I’ve been longing for carrot apple soup, my mom’s lasagna recipe cottage cheese, crackers with savory pumpkin dip and anything involving apples for weeks now. I love you, summer, but I’ve had enough buttermilk grilled chicken for now.

Other than a Halloween charcuterie board, nothing says “autumn” to me more than going to an apple orchard, eating warm donuts with cider for lunch, and buying way, way more apples than my family of three realistically needs.

Then spending the next month putting apples in everything I eat (even on a butter board) to prove to myself that buying all those apples was a great idea. These walnut stuffed baked apples are one of my favorite simple apple desserts.

The best part is that the recipe can easily be adapted to feed a big crowd, or can be prepared as a simple weeknight sweet treat for one or two. They’re even a great addition to your Thanksgiving recipes list, as a unique alternative to traditional apple pie (try a batch of Thanksgiving Rice Krispies treats, too).
