]]>No matter what your entree is for Christmas dinner, I’m willing to be that this Christmas Salad will go with it.
It’s a combination of peppery arugula and crisp radicchio, topped with juicy oranges, creamy goat cheese, cinnamon roasted almonds and beautiful pomegranate seeds.
But the thing that sets this salad apart is the zesty orange dressing. It’s creamy but not too creamy, filled with the flavor of fresh orange juice, sweetened with a bit of honey, and made a bit tangy by white wine vinegar and Dijon mustard.

This salad for Thanksgiving is a combination of sweet and savory flavors using seasonal ingredients, and it’s easy to prep a lot of it in advance. Simply toss it together right before dinner!

]]>With a 4-year-old in the house, it’s not every day that I put something (that’s not mac and cheese) on the dinner table that EVERY family member loves.
Unexpectedly, this Farro Salad recipe received that reception! With it’s vibrant Mediterranean flavors that balance salty, sweet, briny and acidic, something about it just makes everybody want to take another bite. And another.
My daughter even asked for the leftovers to be packed in her lunch for school the next day!

]]>Right up there with salmon pasta, this salad is one of the most popular recipes on this site!
I think it’s because it’s a side dish that can be made in advance and has a huge amount of flavor going on.
There’s creamy cheese and mayo, tangy lime juice, herby cilantro and a little bit of heat from cayenne and chili powder.
It can be made with fresh or frozen corn, and there’s substitution options for a lot of the ingredients, making it easy to use what you already have on hand.
My favorite part is that it can be served warmed, chilled or even right at room temperature. It’s equally delicious all three ways.

]]>Since I’m not the world’s biggest fan of peaches eaten on their own or in sweet dishes, my goal this summer was to make the best savory peach dish ever.
This Burrata Peach Salad lives up to those expectations and more.
While many peach burrata salads also include tomatoes or avocado for filler, or prosciutto, this one needs no filler or meat at all.
The co-stars of this show are lots of juicy grilled peaches and luscious burrata cheese.
The supporting players are a flurry of fresh herbs, pine nuts, and a sweet-savory dressing made with honey and shallots.
The special guest star is some rustic pesto croutons which you’ll want to gobble up before they even make it onto the salad.

]]>The popularity of watermelon feta salad had gone up and up in the past few decades, and it seems to be at just about every summer gathering I attend.
The problem is, a lot of times, this salad is BLAND! It shouldn’t be, right? You’ve got juicy watermelon and salty and creamy feta, so what could go wrong?
This recipe solves the trap that many watermelon feta mint salads fall into – under seasoning. Just because the feta is a bit salty doesn’t mean you don’t need to season the watermelon.
And you’ll be surprised what a long way a half a lemon and a half an orange will go towards giving this watermelon salad with feta HUGE, bright flavor.

]]>Let’s say you have a meal planned with crock pot baby back ribs or country style pork ribs oven on the menu. First of all, don’t forget the dry rub for ribs.
It’s easy to get caught up in making sure the meat is cooked perfectly and kind of forget about the fact that you need to serve some sides to go with ribs!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve found myself doing an internet search for “what goes with ribs” or “best sides for ribs” over the years.
Then, the hard part becomes narrowing it down, because you end up with too many options.
My goal for the roundup below was to bring you the best of the best. There’s a lot of options without being so many that it becomes overwhelming.

]]>I believe that one of the easiest but most impactful ways to take your home cooking up a notch is to make homemade salad dressings.
While jarred salad dressings are certainly quick and easy, they’re also generally filled with quite a bit of preservatives (like sodium and sugar) and artificial ingredients. Same goes for bottled meat marinades and glazes, which is why I make my own flat iron steak marinade and balsamic glaze.
Additionally, the flavor can be really hit or miss, and you usually don’t know how it’s going to taste until you’ve already committed and purchased an entire bottle. There’s nothing worse than spending $6 or even more on a fancy bottled dressing and discovering that nobody in your family likes it.
That’s why I love to make homemade salad dressings like miso dressing and citrus salad dressing.
Today, allow me to show you how another homemade salad dressing with big flavor can come together quickly and easily, and wow your family and friends.
The combination of lemon and feta can’t be beat – I’ve already made sure of that with my Greek yogurt mashed potatoes.
This feta dressing recipe is inspired by the salad dressing at a local Lebanese restaurant. It’s an incredibly versatile recipe to have in your back pocket, especially to toss with greens and serve alongside Greek lasagna, lamb bolognese or meat sauce rigatoni.
(more…)“Just made this dressing in 5 minutes and it’s absolutely delicious! What I really love is that I had all the ingredients in my fridge/pantry already. That’s always a huge plus finding a recipe with everyday ingredients. This will be a new staple for me!”

]]>One thing about my cooking philosophy is that I don’t buy salad dressing. I MAKE salad dressing. It’s one of the very easiest ways to feel like a chef at home, with surprisingly little effort on your part.
Homemade salad dressings like miso dressing and just about any other variety you can imagine are almost always healthier than store bought, as you control what goes into them.
And they are 100% ALWAYS more fresh and delicious.
I’m actually surprised that I haven’t already shared my basic recipe for a citrus vinaigrette salad dressing until now. It’s one that I’ve been making for years to drizzle over my summer beet salad recipe.
And since I want to make this website all about sharing well-loved dishes without fussy ingredients (like fettuccine bolognese and lemon butter shrimp pasta), here we are. Please enjoy my favorite-ever citrus vinaigrette recipe.
I especially love mixed greens tossed with this citrus salad dressing alongside cottage cheese lasagna, lamb lollipops or pasta with salmon. The acidity from the dressing is such a nice counterpoint to the heavier flavors in a hearty entree.
